What is alpine fleece?

Alpine fleece consists of Cotton and polyester and may have a slight spandex content. The fabric is wonderfully soft and cuddly and is very suitable for making fluffy textiles for the cold season.

The material is characterized by the fact that it has two different "right" sides. One feels similar to Sweat on and can be decorated with a wide variety of patterns. The other is made of thick fleece, whose fibers are much longer than conventional fleece fabrics.

What properties make alpine fleece so unique?

The fleece-sweat combination is relatively thick and keeps particularly warm due to its two layers. The small air chambers of the fleece layer trap the heat, so it is not lost so quickly. In addition, the Fabric:

  • slightly elastic and cuddly
  • heat insulating
  • moisture regulating
  • durable
  • easy to clean (no pilling on the inside).

What to consider when caring for alpine fleece?

If you follow these tips, the fleece fabric will stay beautiful for a long time.

  • Washing: Alpine fleece fabric can be washed in the washing machine without hesitation. The gentle wash cycle at temperatures of 30 to 40 °C is recommended.
  • Drying: Unless the care instructions specifically indicate this option, you should not put fleece fabrics in the dryer. The heat could damage the synthetic fibers.
  • Ironing: The smooth side of the fleece fabric hardly tends to wrinkle. It is enough to smooth it out by hand. If ironing is unavoidable, then only from the outside and at low heat.

How is alpine fleece processed?

You can sew the fabric like normal sweat. A jersey needle is ideal, as it is particularly gentle on the material thanks to its ball point. Due to its high-pile back, the fleece fabric tends to fray at the cut edges. Therefore, you should neaten these.
